RETIRED fish merchant Alec Bills has been singing the praises of a superhero barmaid who came to his rescue when he fell.
Alec, 89, of Chandos, Cleethorpes was walking into The Fiddler, in Market Place, when he stumbled and fell and banged his head.
Luckily Yvonne Money was standing just yards away and raced to his rescue.
She helped him into the bar where she treated him for a gash to his elbow.
The drama happened on Wednesday evening as he made a regular date with his family at the venue.
Alec, The President of the Orpheus Male Voice Choir, joked: "I would not have minded if I had done it as I left after a few drinks, but I had not even got to the bar.
"They were all very kind to me."
He added: "I normally go to choir rehearsals on a Wednesday, but on this occasion I arranged to meet my daughter for a meal. I usually have a coffee or a shandy."
The fall was witnessed by Yvonne, who was on a day off but decided to drop in to the bar.
Owner Paul Money's daughter-in-law said she was unsure whether to move the fall victim because of his head injury.
But she helped him to his feet and into the bar where she tended to the bleeding elbow.
She used equipment kept in the bar's First Aid box.
She said: "My main priority was to stop the bleeding. We always have the First Aid box to hand."
Bar owner Mr Money said: "Yvonne did fantastically. We always look after everyone in the bar. It is a nice and friendly pub."
Alec's daughter Christa Horrell said: "The staff at The Fiddler were fantastic. We arrived about 15 minutes later unaware of what had happened but they knew we were coming and came to meet us at the door so we were not shocked by what we saw if we walked straight in.
"If it had not been for the staff we would have had to get him to the accident and emergency department of Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby and there is no knowing how long we would have had to wait.
"I wish to say a big thank you to the staff at The Fiddler for the amazing way they look after my father.
"The staff could not have been kinder. They did a brilliant job of looking after him until I arrived.
This is the best pub in Cleethorpes for customer service. They were saints."
