GRIMSBY mum Victoria Goodwin was "in a rut" when she stole from two stores.

Goodwin, 26, of Roberts Street, admitted stealing three bottles of vodka worth £45 from Marks & Spencer in Freshney Place, Grimsby, on November 13.

She also admitted to taking a gift set worth £35 from BHS on December 3.

The offences were in breach of a conditional discharge for six months issued in October last year.

Rebecca Dolby, prosecuting, told Grimsby Magistrates' Court: "The staff (at M&S) were alerted to this female acting suspiciously.

"She was seen to take three bottles of vodka and place one into her pushchair."

She said Goodwin was detained on Victoria Street and admitted to what she had done.

"She said she stole to feed her son," said Miss Dolby.

The prosecutor told the court Goodwin was detained by a passing PCSO after stealing from BHS.

"She made full admissions saying this wasn't her intention," she said. "She said she thought she could get away with it.

"She said she was skint and her payments had been reduced."

Miss Dolby said Goodwin has a heroin problem, and added: "She said she was ashamed and embarrassed and wanted to get help."

Addressing the court, Goodwin said: "There's not a lot I can say. I was in a rut but I've brought myself out of it."

She told the court she would struggle to pay any fines.

She had a previous fine outstanding.

Presiding magistrate Kathryn Williams reduced the previous fine by £70.

For the new offences she handed down a total of £75 worth of fines, including a £20 victims' surcharge.
