GRIMSBY Town boss Paul Hurst says their performance against Barnet 'set the standard' for the rest of the Conference season.
The Mariners brushed aside the league leaders on Saturday, winning 3-1 thanks to goals from Ollie Palmer, Lenell John Lewis' penalty and Jack Mackreth.
And with a midweek replay with Gateshead now on the agenda, the boss wants to see more of the same from his side.
"In some aspects, Saturday's performance sets the standard for us," he said.
"I hope it goes some way to giving the players back the confidence that I felt had been eking away slightly and that they'll take that into Wednesday.
"The team for Wednesday had slightly been on my mind, but the focus, of course, was totally on the Barnet game.
"Shaun Pearson got a kick towards the end and Scott Brown also took a whack early in the second half, so I'll have to check on them before I make the decision.
"But we're going up there not just to fulfil a fixture – I stand by what I always say about the Trophy – we want to win it.
"If we don't, fair enough, but I want us to give it everything we can to try and get through to that next round against Wrexham."
On Saturday, Town had fallen behind to John Akinde's sixth-minute penalty after being tripped by Toto Nsiala, but roared back to record a fantastic victory.
"It's up there with our best home performances this season, with the fact that Barnet are top of the league and we went on to win by a two-goal margin," Hurst added.
"I was really pleased with the energy and tempo of a lot of our play – every time we attacked, there looked a real possibility of us adding to our total."
Hurst also revealed he is hopeful of hearing back from one of his transfer targets as early as today.
He added: "With the lad that we've spoken to, it's in his hands really, but I'd expect to hear something at the start of this week."
