COASTGUARDS have warned people not to risk their lives by getting stuck on the mud flats on Cleethorpes beach after two women had to be rescued, suffering from hypothermia.
One of the women called 999 shortly before 4pm on Sunday.
It was at a low water time and the two had wandered a considerable distance from the shoreline.
A spokeswoman for The Coastguard Agency said: "People need to check the tide times, as well as the weather conditions. They need to tell someone where they are going and what time they are expected back."
Cleethorpes Beach Safety were also alerted to the two women stranded in mud by the coastguard.
They were quickly spotted stuck in the marsh area seaward side of Cleethorpes Leisure Centre.
The beach safety team proceeded to the area where they found the two young women.
Temperatures had plummeted and the women were disorientated due to the failing light and cold, a spokesman said.
The two women were escorted to safety and brought back to the first aid post where they were treated for mild hypothermia.
A beach safety team spokesman urged walkers to stick to the well-known walking routes and not take short cuts across any of the salt marshes.
