Grimsby Town say David Mirfin of Scunthorpe United not on transfer radar

MARINERS boss Paul Hurst says a move for two Football League players – who have been linked to the club – remains unlikely.

Scunthorpe United defender David Mirfin, who has yet to feature so far this season, is rumoured to be available for loan from the Iron.

Meanwhile, free agent Raffaele De Vita is also available for transfer, following his release from Cheltenham Town.

But while both players are on the hunt for a new challenge, a move to Cleethorpes has all-but been ruled out by the boss.

Hurst told the Telegraph: "You never say never, but it's easy to come up with names like Raffaele.

"We can all pick a wonderful team, but we have to take into account situations of players and clubs.

"Some of these players might not be achievable, for whatever reason, so we are not looking at them for now.

"From the form David was in before the injury, I don't think he would be looking at Conference football.

"And realistically, in terms of the centre halves we have got, we are more than happy with the options we have."

On the club's ongoing search for new players, Hurst added: "We have got to be a bit careful, with having three loan players in.

"I don't think we will be filling that up quota quickly, as we may need something further down the line.

"We are looking, and I'm not saying permanent deals aren't out of the question either.

"But that's not the usual way at this time in the season."
