AUSTIN Mitchell has pledged to make a film called Great Grimsby in response to the apparent negative image of the town portrayed in Sacha Baron Cohen's film Grimsby, which is set to be released later this year.

In an interview with Calendar, the Labour MP pledged to make the film showing Grimsby's better side, by showing the good things about the town and all it has to offer.

Mr Mitchell, pictured, raised concerns about the movie's release later this year, adding: "I'm dreading it, it'll do no good for Grimsby's public image."

He continued: "You've got to be proud to live in Grimsby, it's a lovely place with good people and it's a wonderful place to live.

"It's very difficult to attract business and jobs to Grimsby. We're fighting for that all the time. This film will do no good. We might attract a new brand of Weightwatchers with all the fat ladies' problems that the film will show, but the film will make Grimsby look bad and will do no good for our reputation and image."

Mr Mitchell's answer to the film is a proposal to make a film called Great Grimsby showing, as he put it: "all the good things there are in Grimsby to set the record straight".

"It will show all the good in the town and I think to counteract his negative image he should support the film," he said.
