GRIMSBY Town boss Paul Hurst has questioned "the games" that a January transfer window brings.
As reported, teams across the country will once again be able to buy – and sell – players from this weekend.
And while there could be activity in and out of Blundell Park, Hurst says movement could be out of the Mariners' hands.
He told the Telegraph: "Things often play out at different speeds.
"You get that initial movement from players, but mostly deals tend to happen at the end of the window.
"People are playing games, ultimately.
"Some teams try and get players out permanently, and then realise they can't do that, so look to the loan market.
"There are a lot of variables out there, and I don't particularly get it.
"You can be made to wait around, and some clubs maybe have to get one out before they can get one in – and things like that.
"In an ideal world, it would be like pre-season in that you get them in as soon as possible.
"But suddenly the goalposts can change, and each deal is different.
"Sometimes you just have to try and hold your nerve, and see how things play out."
