GET out and about and boost your health and fitness in the new year by discovering the beauty of the Caistor and Market Rasen area on foot.
West Lindsey Health Walks is a voluntary community group, working with the Ramblers' Association and Macmillan Cancer Support, to help people – whatever their health and fitness level – to enjoy walking.
"We aim to promote regular and gentle exercise with enjoyment of the Lincolnshire Wolds through brisk walking," said co-ordinator Jackie Brown.
Walks take place every Wednesday in Caistor, meeting at the Parish Church at 10.30am and walking over three miles in an hour. These walks do include some ascents and descents due to the hilly countryside around Caistor.
"The advantage of walking, besides a little extra exercise for your heart, is that we have some fantastic views to look at," added Jackie.
Walk leaders in Caistor are Val Waddington, Margaret Roach and June Gaughan. Two people who take part regularly are Gill Lawledge and Babs Fraser.
Gill said: "I really enjoy it and it is good for me in that it gets me out in all weathers and we have a good chat."
Babs added: "Meeting people and making new friends is why we all join the walks. That's what they are all about."
Afterwards there are refreshments inside the church for all walkers.
In Market Rasen the meet-up point is John Street car park, on a Thursday morning, at 10.30am.
"With over eight different routes we explore the delightful countryside around Market Rasen exploring areas like Linwood Warren and Willingham Woods," added Jackie.
These walks are up to four miles in length and last up to ninety minutes.
All walks are led by fully trained leaders. Walkers need strong shoes and bring a drink. Most important of all – the walks are free!
