A NEW £1.2 million assisted living centre is under construction at the Diana, Princess Of Wales Hospital, Grimsby.

Set to open in April, the centre will be a one-stop-shop for advice and information for patients who require equipment and support at home to be able to maintain their independence.

They'll be able to get advice on a range of equipment available to help them at home including wheelchairs, hoists, walking frames and even home adaptations including stair lifts.

The centre will also be the new home for the existing community equipment store, where many of these items are currently loaned out from, but will also have a demonstration area featuring a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and lounge.

Clare Rockall, therapy services manager at Northern Lincolnshire And Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG), said: "This new centre gives us a fantastic opportunity to house all of our equipment services under one roof. Patients will be able to come to the new purpose-built facility to find out what types of equipment we have available and what they are eligible for. It will enable us to help more patients stay at home by helping them maintain their independence."

An additional eight members of staff are being recruited for the new centre which is a joint project between NLaG and North East Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

The new service will be based in the former Kingsley Grove and sexual health buildings on the site, which will be linked by a corridor.
