Too Good To Go Down: Three points for Grimsby Town the best response to Woking manager's rant

AWARD-WINNING blogger Too Good To Go Down has his say on the recent outbursts from Garry Hill and Lincoln's Kegan Everington...

IF this is the worst Grimsby side since relegation to the Conference, what does that say about Garry Hill's Woking outfit?

In a bizarre post-match rant after the Cards lost 3-1 to the Mariners on Tuesday night, the visiting boss took sour grapes to a whole new level.

As reported this week in the Telegraph, the Londoner launched a scathing attack on the Mariners, saying it was the "poorest Grimsby team he'd ever seen", claiming that Barnet will 'walk' their way to the Conference title.

This, of course, after his side had been walloped by the second-placed Mariners, ahead of today's trip to Telford.

And his comments about Barnet might have put a hex on the league leaders after they were beaten by a late Bristol Rovers goal!

I'm not sure exactly what Hill finds so offensive about Grimsby, but the best retort is to come away with the three points, which is exactly what Paul Hurst's side did.

It made up for a dire display the previous weekend as Town were beaten by a decent – if patched-up – Kidderminster team.

A change in formation from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 also triggered more attacking intent against the Cards and led to another two goals for Lenell John-Lewis.

Woking have made a great start to the season, that cannot be denied, and they would have been disappointed to see their unbeaten run come to an end, particularly against promotion rivals.

Hill's comments after the match were probably in frustration – I'd be frustrated too if I watched a better team win.

The Woking boss (pictured) wasn't the only one who seemingly failed to engage his brain before opening his mouth this week.

Kegan Everington (and if you're reading this saying 'who?' you're not the only one) is in hot water with the FA after an alleged foul mouthed tirade aimed at Grimsby as he watched the TV show Skint.

The Lincoln City fringe player is now being investigated by the FA for his comments, which he later deleted – but only after Mariners fans took screen shots of his alleged misdemeanours.

There's of course no love lost between the Mariners and the Imps, with Lincoln fans once complaining to the FA about an incident involving Anthony Elding which saw the Mariners striker banned.

The relationship wasn't helped by a recent inflammatory article in the Lincolnshire Echo mocking Grimsby ahead of the TV show Skint.

I would say Everington would likely receive a warm welcome when his Lincoln side visit Blundell Park on December 28, but the midfielder has barely played this season and is unlikely to grace the hallowed turf.

It's probably fair to say his alleged antics on Twitter will get him more notoriety than his footballing skills the way his Lincoln career has started!
