A HEARTBROKEN lover defied a restraining order in a doomed bid to stay on friendly terms with his ex-girlfriend, a court heard.
David Walkington, 24, of Bradley Road, Waltham, admitted breaching a restraining order between March 1 and June 1 and possessing cocaine on July 21.
Rebecca Dolby, prosecuting, told Grimsby Magistrates' Court that Walkington was given a restraining order by Leeds magistrates earlier this year, banning him from contacting Nicola Bellamey.
He sent a text message to her mother saying of Miss Bellamey: "I wish I could see her to say how sorry I am. I love her." He wanted to give her £100 he owed her.
When he went to the police station, he was found to have a small piece of cocaine in his wallet. He claimed he had forgotten about it.
Nick Furman, mitigating, said Walkington had struggled to cope with the breakdown of the relationship and wanted to remain friends.
His former girlfriend had previously contacted him by text and telephone, claimed Mr Furman, but she had "moved on". There had been no contact between them for four or five weeks.
Walkington was fined £300 and was ordered to pay £85 costs and a Government-imposed £25 victims' surcharge.
