HAMISH Watson's future at Grimsby Town is still undecided – but boss Paul Hurst is working on it.
The New Zealand striker is currently training with the Mariners in the hope of earning a deal.
However, any permanent move to Blundell Park would require international clearance and the club are currently assessing those implications.
Hurst told the Telegraph that he has been impressed with what he's seen from the frontman, who plays for Wellington Phoenix in the Australian A-League.
However, he says no definite decision has been made on the 21-year-old, with work- permit issues threatening to scupper the move.
"We're just trying to find out where we stand with him, but he continues to train with us," Hurst said.
"He knows he's got to up his fitness levels, but that will naturally come with the more he trains to a degree.
"But he does need to work hard at that side of the game, as well as doing the work that the rest of the squad are doing. There's not a yes or no either way with him yet."
He added: "I've been impressed with certain things that I've seen from him, but then there are other things that we've spoken about that I'd like him to work on.
"But he can certainly finish and as a striker, that's the main attribute.
"Hamish knows what I want from him and it's about him understanding the English game and the level we're at.
"I've seen some of the games he's played in over in Australia and it is a lot slower – so he will have to adjust if something did happen."
