CHRIS Doig, Carl Magnay and Danny Parslow are all in the frame – but who will deputise for the suspended Shaun Pearson?

Grimsby Town's influential centre-half will be forced to sit out tomorrow's trip to Torquay – leaving Paul Hurst to mull over his replacement.

And while Hurst would rather have Pearson at his disposal, he's confident the Mariners can cope with his absence.

He said: "I've got a couple of options to replace Shaun because of the flexibility of the defensive players that we've got here.

"I'm confident that we can cope with his absence – although I would prefer to have him available.

"The obvious ones are Carl Magnay, Chris Doig and Danny Parslow, but I've also got young Ellis Humble as well, so there are plenty of options available to me."

Elsewhere, Hurst admits there is doubt over midfielder Craig Clay's involvement at Plainmoor as he continues to struggle with the knock he picked up in last Saturday's win at Wrexham.

However, Clay took part in the majority of yesterday's training session and Hurst says there is still a chance he will be fit to face the Gulls.

"Craig Clay got a knock on his tibia against Wrexham and it's still a little bit sore when he puts weight on it.

"He did most of the training yesterday, but it was just towards the end that he was feeling it a little bit, so we didn't want to make it any worse.

"He'll travel down with us today and we'll do a check tomorrow morning, prior to kick-off, to clarify exactly how he's feeling.

"I don't think it's anything long-term and touch wood he'll be okay for tomorrow."

Hurst also confirmed that Jon-Paul Pittman is fit for selection, but won't be rushed back tomorrow.
