Alex Salmond is resigning as Scotland's First Minister after losing the independence referendum.
Mr Salmond today said he would stand down in November after the 'No' campaign secured 55 per cent of the vote.
The First Minister announced his resignation this afternoon after accepting that a majority of Scots had decided "at this stage" to reject independence.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister David Cameron has promised that the Scottish Parliament would be given sweeping new control over tax, spending and welfare.
However, he added that, in return, Scottish MPs must not be allowed to vote on English matters in Westminster. Mr Cameron said the new deal for England would be worked through "in tandem" with the transfer of new powers to Scotland.
