RESIDENTS and businesses are being urged to send a Christmas card with a difference this festive season.

St Andrew's Hospice in Grimsby has created a three-minute festive video which can be emailed to friends and family with a short message, in return for a minimum £20 donation.

It is hoped the lighthearted video, which features various local people singing a medley of popular Christmas carols, will go viral and raise vital funds to support people with life-limiting illnesses in North East Lincolnshire.

Among those hitting the high notes are traders at Freeman Street Market, Grimsby Town players and members of the Grimsby Minster Choir.

The short film, which follows hot on the heels of the hospice's spoof of the James Bond sketch filmed for the Olympic opening ceremony, has been put together by East Coast Pictures and sponsored by the Grimsby Telegraph.

Debbie Connolly, from St Andrew's Hospice, said: "We had heard about another hospice that recorded a video last year. They had nurses and hospital porters singing about bed pans, and we wanted to take it one step further and have people singing carols.

"The aim is to try and capture people's imaginations and create a different way for people to send Christmas greetings to friends and family, as well as raising as much as possible to support people with life-limiting illnesses.

"We have just had the most phenomenal response and we would like to thank everybody involved in the making of the video.

"We are asking for a minimum £20 donation, and we hope that some people and organisations will pay a little bit more."

A 30-second trailer of the video can be viewed by clicking here

Debbie added: "We are hoping that businesses will also put the link to the trailer on their websites. We hope people will spread the word and it will go viral."
