FEATHER boas and flapper dresses helped history- lovers host a stylish bash celebrate the foundations of Cleethorpes as a holiday resort.
A 1920s event was hosted by The Friends Of Cleethorpes' Heritage – and organisers say there are more nostalgic and fun events on the way next year.
Hundreds flocked to Cleethorpes Memorial Hall for the celebration on Sunday and were entertained by Clee Dancers, giving a demonstration of the Charleston and other dances from the era.
Many visitors wore the fashions of the day, including long pearl necklaces, feather boas and feathered head bands, as music from the era was played by The Dixie Jazz Band and Ivor Akester.
Ann Reavey, chairman of Friends Of Cleethorpes Heritage, which organised the event, said there will be three similar events and three heritage workshops in the resort next year thanks to a Lottery Awards For All grant of more than £8,000.
She said: "It has been absolutely fantastic event. So many people have enjoyed themselves and had fun.
"We have had people up doing the Charleston on the dance floor and a lot of people come dressed up, which added to the atmosphere.
"It has been really well supported and people have been able to learn useful information all about Cleethorpes and its heritage.
"There was a lot of hardship in the 1920s, but people still knew how to have fun."
There were displays of old photographs of bygone Cleethorpes, pictures of transport from the Twenties, including the popular Austin Seven, and aircraft from the post First World War era.
Friends committee member Graeme Bassett said: "The Twenties are a big part of Cleethorpes' heritage. It is a time that people remember with affection and interest. "The decade was part of the foundation of Cleethorpes, as a resort as the working class were starting to get paid holidays.
"Many of the old mill towns would shut down for a week and everyone would head to the coast.
"It was all about people having disposable income and leisure time. People used to fill the area around The Boating Lake.
"It must have been the best time Cleethorpes ever had."
Visitors were also able to see how Britain performed in the 1924 Paris Olympics when our athletes won ten gold, 14 silver and 12 bronze medals.
There were photographs of the Royal Wedding of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1923 and there was also a street directory of Cleethorpes, showing fish merchants George Page, of Albert Road, and Fred Mackrill, of Alexandra Road.
