Excitement levels show no sign of nose-diving as the last two airworthy Lancaster bombers continue their UK tour with a pair of flypasts over the area this Bank Holiday weekend. Visitor numbers were sky-high on grimsbytelegraph.co.uk on Thursday as aviation enthusiasts logged on to see where they could catch a glimpse of the Mynarski Memorial Lancaster from Canada and its Battle of Britain Memorial twin as they flew over parts of Lincolnshire alongside the thunderous Vulcan XH558. Though the aircrafts' flight path did not take them over the Grimsby area, local plane spotters will be on cloud nine this Sunday as the magnificent kings of the sky have their sights set on two nearby events. The Lancasters will bring a touch of period authenticity to the 1940s weekend in North Thoresby when they soar over the vintage extravaganza. The flypast is currently scheduled for 3.20pm but organisers have said they will display signs in the village on the day informing visitors of when to expect the aircraft. Full details of the free two-day event, including a Spitfire flypast, can be found in today's Guide. Shortly afterwards, the bombers will appear at a Memorial Dedication Ceremony at the former RAF Strubby near Alford. The spectacular flypast will coincide with the unveiling of an 8-foot tall, 5-tonne granite memorial in honour of those who served at the airfield during and after the Second World War. The ceremony is set to take place at 2pm with the Lancasters expected at around 4pm. This will be preceded by a Spitfire flypast at 3pm while the Red Arrows will also make an appearance at 5pm. Entry is free with gates opening at the airfield at 12pm. The ceremony also includes performances by singer Marlaina Rube, Alford Silver Band, Withern Singers and Morris Dancers. Looking forward, the Lancasters will return to northern Lincolnshire when they take in North Coates Flying Club's Autumn Fly-In on Saturday, September 6. They will also appear during both days of the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway's 1940s event the same weekend closely followed by a flypast over Cleethorpes on the Sunday afternoon.
