ANOTHER local photographer has snapped up a canvas print of his picture – after being named the latest winner of the Grimsby Telegraph Camera Club competition.
Mike Whittaker, 44, of Humberston wowed the judges after he submitted his colourful image of a very early morning behind Pleasure Island, Cleethorpes.
As reported, the competition – run in association with Comleys Cameras, Cleethorpes – aims to showcase the skills and talent of local photographers.
Each week, we feature the best images in the pages of the Grimsby Telegraph and every month one image is chosen to be made into a canvas print worth £70 by Comleys Cameras.
There are no limits on what you can submit, whether you have a picturesque local scene, a stunning portrait, your perfect pet, wildlife, flora, fauna or even a candid shot taken at a local event – we want you to send us your best snaps.
Staff at Comleys Cameras judge the photographs and choose which one will be made into a canvas.
Mike's image wowed the judges with its striking colour and a different view of a famous Cleethorpes landmark.
Mike said: "It was a big surprise to be chosen. I have never had my images printed before.
"I don't usually display them, but I think I might start getting my best ones printed now."
Mike started his photography hobby just two years ago after his wife bought him a Canon 550d camera for Christmas.
He said: "To get the shot I had to go out really early and I took lots of pictures before I got the perfect shot.
"The Camera Club is great. Seeing the work of others is very impressive and it's interesting to see what others have done."
Paul Burgess, manager at Comley Cameras, said: "It's getting harder to choose a winner from the increasing quality of the pictures.
"This one stood out because of its striking colour. I have never seen Pleasure Island like that before. It's very pleasing to the eye."
And now there is even more reason to come up with a great idea.
December's winner will receive a £100 Comleys voucher as well as their canvas, so if your photograph is published during December, then you could be a double winner!
