A FURIOUS teenager "went berserk" and attacked several men inside a house after he "created mayhem" and "completely lost control".

He used a piece of wood to smash one of the men forcefully on the arms and neck, a court heard.

Jake Campbell, 18, of Imperial Avenue, Cleethorpes, admitted burglary, assaulting Paul McPhee causing actual bodily harm and assaulting Raymond Brown and Daniel Harris on July 8.

Jeremy Evans, prosecuting, told Grimsby Crown Court Campbell made a nuisance of himself outside a house and spoke to people inside. He entered the premises in Wellington Street, Grimsby, and forced a bedroom door from its hinges. He waved a crutch and threatened to steal a games console.

Mr Harris tried to calm him down but Campbell tried to hit Lewis Boulton with the crutch. Mr Harris used the broken door to force Campbell out of the room.

"Campbell forced his way back in and Mr Harris grappled with him in an attempt to force him out of the house," said Mr Evans.

"Despite putting his hands up to defend himself, Mr Harris was punched by the defendant.

"He continued to punch Mr Harris to his head and body."

"The defendant used a piece of wood from the broken door frame to attempt to smash the glass in the front door. Mr Harris retreated as he feared that the glass would be forced through."

Campbell entered the property again, took hold of a broken skirting board and threatened Mr Boulton and Mr Brown.

He picked up a fluorescent light fitting and hit Mr Brown on the arm, causing it to smash. Both men confronted Campbell, who left the room. Mr McPhee asked him to leave but Campbell used a piece of wood to hit him on the arms and neck, causing cuts. Mr Harris and Mr McPhee barricaded themselves in before police arrived and arrested Campbell nearby.

The court heard Campbell had a one-year detention and training order from July 2013 for attempted robbery following an incident where he threatened a victim in the street with a knife to make him hand over a mobile phone. He had 16 convictions, including for assaulting police, the court heard.

Ghaff Khan, mitigating, said Campbell went to the wrong house and "created mayhem" when he "completely lost control". He had an "unenviable record for one so young", he added.

Judge David Tremberg told Campbell: "You just wouldn't go away. You went berserk, attacking the premises, causing acts of damage and attacking anybody who came across your path and some who were trying to hide from you.

"You were using makeshift weapons and causing significant injuries to one of the victims in what was a sustained and serious attack."

Campbell was jailed for three years.
