FERGAL O'Brien has waited for the right race to come along for Creevytennant – and the trainer hopes it could be today's Betfred Summer Plate at Market Rasen Racecourse.

An Irish point-to-pointer for most of his career, Creevytennant has flourished in hunter chases for O'Brien and scored at Ascot in April last year.

He made his first start since that victory when appearing at Perth in a handicap last month, holding on to win despite jinking on the run-in.

"He has to go right-handed, so he's very limited in the races he can run in and this is something that has always been a plan," said O'Brien.

"He did the job well at Perth, and we hoped he'd get in here, but we entered him in the Galway Plate as another option to have."

Creevytennant will be ridden by conditional jockey Conor Shoemark in a hugely competitive field of 15 runners.

Tony McCoy, pictured, will be hoping to break Martin Pipe's astonishing mark of 4,191 career winners at the Lincolnshire track, having drawn level with the total when scoring aboard the aptly named On The Record at Uttoxeter on Wednesday.
