A SPECIAL event will be held this weekend to celebrate everything that is great about Immingham.
The first Showcase Immingham extravaganza will take place today and tomorrow, from 11am to 4pm.
Mayor Of Immingham, Councillor Malcolm Cullum, said: "We are very proud of our town and wanted to show everyone what we have to offer.
"We may not be a major tourist attraction, but we hope to show people how much the town has changed in the last few years.
"We believe visitors will enjoy our award-winning floral displays, open gardens, museum, skate park, angling lake and the chance to view parish records and old photographs of the town.
"We also want to appeal to residents, who may not be aware of the many voluntary organisations in the town or have taken the time to visit the museum or view the flower beds.
"It's a chance for everybody to have a relaxing day out and look at all the wonderful things Immingham has to offer."
The timetable on both days will include displays, stalls and demonstrations at venues including the Civic Centre, Oasis Academy hall, Oasis Academy library, Oasis Academy canteen, Trinity Chapel, St Andrew's Church and Homestead Park. Refreshments will be served at the majority of venues.
There will also be taster sessions at Margaret Street Children's Centre, from 10am to noon, today.
A highlight of the event for sports fans will be a visit to the town by the FA Cup, organised by Immingham Pilgrims AFC.
The cup will be on display in the library at Oasis Academy, from 10am to 3pm today, and offers football lovers the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have their photograph taken with the cup, as reported.
Other venues that will be welcoming visitors to the showcase include the Civic Centre and museum, The County Hotel, Immingham Golf Club, the replica First World War trench in Pelham Road and the Pilgrim Fathers' Monument.
Councillor Cullum is also inviting visitors to view the outside of his historic home at 395 Pelham Road.
He added: "Our corrugated iron bungalow dates to 1907 and is an unusual surviving example of a type of housing rapidly constructed as part of a major building or civil engineering project to house its workers, in this case the Immingham Dock.
"It is Grade II listed and has been my home since 1975. My aim is to restore the outside to its original look."
A programme produced for the showcase weekend includes contact details and meeting times for all the clubs and organisations in the town.
It also includes a timetable of events taking place over the weekend.
