LOCAL piper Danny Fleming has earned his place in the record books.
As previously reported, the 51-year-old from Cleethorpes has been officially recognised as having the largest bagpipe collection in the world.
Now he has been told that his feat is to be included in the 2015 Guinness Book Of Records, due to be published in September.
Danny, who has built up his collection of 105 bagpipes over a 40-year period, said: "I'm absolutely delighted. I think it's because of the uniqueness of the record. Pipers generally have two or three sets of bagpipes but not 105."
The Scotsman, who is a constable with Humberside Police, revealed that he had risked the wrath of his wife Jane by adding to his already massive collection.
She "banned" him from buying any more bagpipes after his record was confirmed, but he confessed he has since increased the tally to 108.
But Danny, who was encouraged to contact the Guinness Book after he and Jane appeared on TV show Bargain Hunt, believes that his record will be broken.
"I'm anticipating somebody will beat it. I'm just pre-empting somebody out there to buy 105 sets of bagpipes to beat me. If there's a mountain to climb someone will climb it."
Danny also revealed a link to two records already listed in the famous book. His late father, butcher Charlie Fleming, provided the steak pies for a record-breaking steak pie eating competition.
And Arbroath, the town in Scotland where Danny is from, still holds the record for the biggest score in world senior football, 36-0 against Aberdeen Bon Accord in a Scottish Cup match in 1885.
In May, Danny was appointed as official piper to the Mayor of North East Lincolnshire Alex Baxter, and has already performed at several events, including the recent Armed Forces Weekend.
He said: "I have never known a mayor to have his own piper. I'm really enjoying it and am looking forward to playing at more events."
