FIVE community libraries will be given over to community groups as part of a North East Lincolnshire Council scheme to save £500,000.
Under the scheme, which was improved by NELC's Cabinet committee this afternoon, four core centres – Grimsby Central Library, Cleethorpes Seafront, Immingham and Waltham – will be retained, with extended opening hours.
However the council will no longer operate centres in Grant Thorold, Willows, Nunsthorpe, Humberston and Laceby.
A decision regarding the future of Scartho library will be made in three months, allowing Mayor of North East Lincolnshire and ward councillor Alex Baxter to meet with key members to discuss possible alternative funding streams he suggested in the meeting.
