With less than a month remaining until Grimsby Town kick-off the new season, it's the perfect opportunity to remember some of the Mariners' finest goals...EVER
IT'S a question which can bring dozens of different answers – but what is the best Grimsby Town goal ever?
The Mariners head into the 2014/15 campaign with high hopes of netting plenty more great goals, and maybe – just maybe – finally securing promotion back to the Football League.
And to get everyone in the mood for the big kick-off, the Telegraph will be showcasing a selection of the Mariners top 400 goals online at www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/sport over the next two weeks.
Each day, we will have a new selection of great goals to choose from as we aim to whittle hundreds of great Town strikes down to the undisputed fans' favourite.
From Phil Jevons' famous strike at Anfield to Wayne Burnett's Wembley golden goal, there are plenty of fantastic, memorable finishes to opt for.
Former players, the Telegraph's writers, and Town supporters will recall their favourite goals over the next two weeks – and explain why their pick is so special to them.
But, most importantly, we want your views.
The readers' votes will be totted up, and the debate over the best Mariners goal of all-time will be settled once and for all – well, almost!
Telegraph Football Writer Matt Dannatt commented: "Every Town fan will have a special goal which has stuck in their memory and still makes them smile – even years later.
"It could be for the quality of the strike, the fantastic build-up play, the importance of the match – or just how they felt at the time.
"Picking your all-time favourite Town goal is always a great debate – whether that's in the pub or in the stands at Blundell Park.
"It will be great to hear what other Town supporters think, and whether their picks are better than my particular favourite – Macca's 'piledriver' against Rushden & Diamonds in August 2005!"
