Options for the future of North East Lincolnshire's library service, which could include community groups taking on smaller libraries, will be discussed next week.
Council bosses have revealed options including proposals to maintain the area's four core libraries in Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Immingham and Waltham, and enabling community groups and other organisations such as parish councils to take on other 'localised' library services, have been drawn-up following extensive public consultation and will be reported to the council's cabinet on Monday.
The service currently operates from a main central library in Grimsby and nine branch libraries at Cleethorpes, Grant Thorold, Willows, Nunsthorpe, Scartho, Humberston, Laceby, Immingham and Waltham, with a total annual budget of nearly £3-million.
However, the service is facing budget cuts of £500,000 and the council needs to deliver a more affordable library service, while still fulfilling its statutory duty to provide a comprehensive and efficient service to the public.
