Forty one members of staff are to be made redundant at the council's Young People's Support Services, as part of ongoing budget cuts at the authority. A North East Lincolnshire Council spokesman confirmed that twelve compulsory redundancies are to be made in addition to 29 voluntary redundancies. A total of 135 employees were involved in a consultation aimed at saving £920,000 from the service's budget. Some of the staff affected are based at the borough's six youth centres, which the council is hoping will be taken over by private providers. As previously reported, the council has received several expressions of interest from organisations about taking on the running of the centres. Steve Kay, assistant director of early intervention at the council, said: "As previously reported by the Telegraph, there has been an extensive review of integrated youth support over the last year. "We've been through a lengthy period of informal and formal consultation involving staff in the service but unfortunately a small number of compulsory redundancies have had to be made. "Notices have been sent to seven full time and five part time affected employees this week." "These redundancies were agreed as part of the council's overall budget plan to tackle the required savings following cuts in government funding."
