THE Post Office has announced proposals to move its current store in Waltham to a new location.
The move will enable the Post Office to create a modern open-plan branch with extended opening hours.
The current site is at 43 High Street, but the new location for the branch will be at the Spar Stores, 3 Kirkgate – 242 metres away.
Should the move go ahead, the branch would open from 7am to 11pm Monday to Sunday, which would be 66 hours more service than is currently on offer.
The new branch will offer products and services from an open-plan till at the retail counter alongside retail transactions throughout the shop's opening hours.
Access will also be available seven days a week.
Post Office regional network manager for central England Adrian Wales said: "We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Waltham and we are confident that this new modern service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
"This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes."
The Post Office are now inviting customers and interested parties to give their feedback to the move as part of a six-week public consultation.
The proposed move is part of a major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business.
The current government has committed £1.34 billion to the Post Office network to ensure there are no branch closures.
Nationwide, the investment programme will also see the modernisation of 8,000 branches.
