Traffic was gridlocked following an accident on the A180 earlier this morning but lanes had reopened by 10am. However, delays are still expected to be experienced by drivers until the traffic clears. A lorry was in the central reservation between junctions four and five eastbound. A highways agency spokesman reported delays of 50 minutes after the road was closed between the junctions with the M180 and the A160. One lane of the westbound carriageway was also shut between the junctions with the A160 and the M180. Traffic flow was further impacted by a lorry breakdown at Melton Ross on the A18. One motorist stuck in the traffic at 8.30am described the delays as "absolute chaos". She said she could see tailbacks off the roundabout at Barnetby Top in every direction, with traffic gridlocked on the A15 towards Hull and as far as the eye could see off the roundabout towards Brigg. In the other direction, vehicles were nose to tail on the A18 towards Humberside Airport. A180 traffic was diverted through South Ferriby and Barton and some drivers used the A46 Laceby Bypass. By 10am the Highways Agency revealed the lanes had reopened but warned of delays continuing until traffic cleared.
