A COUPLE were horrified when a car ploughed through their garden wall in the early hours.

And as police were setting up a road closure, a van then got stuck after driving onto the pathway in an attempt to get around the emergency service vehicles which were attending the scene.

The car, a Citroen Saxo, which police say was being driven by a suspected drink-driver, caused significant damage to the wall in Laceby Road, at the junction with Crowland Avenue.

The householder, who wished to remain anonymous, said the incident happened just after midnight into Saturday morning.

She said: "We heard a crash, and my partner went straight out to have a look, where he saw a car in the garden.

"We didn't see it so we're not too sure what happened, but someone walking by said they had seen it spin in the road.

"It was obviously quite surprising and you don't expect something like that to happen, especially that late at night.

"It's a rented property so I'm going to have to get on the phone to the landlord and find out where we stand.

"I've no idea who is responsible to repair the damage.

"We've got a two-year-old girl, though, so it might be a bit difficult to get out of the garden with the pushchair."

Information on the incident should be passed to Grimsby police on 101.
