GRIMSBY Institute will be the first college in the country to have its own wind turbines.
The two turbines, one each at Nuns Corner campus and the Stallingborough CATCH training centre, will be around a quarter of the size of those which will be erected in the North Sea to harness wind energy.
They will be used to train engineers for the renewables industry.
The announcement came as the Institute launched a new European-funded project called GREAT - Green Renewable Environment and Associated Technologies.
The college has received a £3.34 million grant to help small and medium-sized businesses in the Humber area to expand into the emerging renewables industry.
They will be encouraged to innovate and provide services for the big companies spearheading the operation and maintenance of wind turbine farms in the North Sea.
Grimsby Institute executive director of projects, Andrew Goudie said: "We are working to develop the GREAT project as one of the largest sources of green knowledge transfer in our region."
