GRIMSBY Town boss Paul Hurst admits he is pleased Welling also had a big Cup game at the weekend, ahead of their visit to Blundell Park tonight.
The two sides lock horns this evening, just three days after both were involved in FA Cup Second Round clashes against League Two opponents.
While Grimsby Town defeated Northampton Town, Jamie Day's Wings went down 3-1 at Plymouth.
And Hurst said: "I'm pleased that Welling also had an FA Cup game which would have taken a bit out of them both physically and emotionally.
"Their game was taken away from them in the first half before getting a bit of pride back in the second half.
"It means that we're on a bit more of an even keel with us both having a big game at the weekend.
"They've obviously had a long journey up today to contend with but there'll be no excuses.
"It's just a case of us doing our job and ensuring there's no hangover."
