Grimsby Town boss Paul Hurst has sights set on revenge against Welling

PAUL Hurst believes Grimsby Town are a 'completely different' team to when they last met Welling – and he wants to see them prove that tonight (7.45pm).

Back in August, the Mariners slipped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat when Ross Lafayette's late strike gave Jamie Day's side their first win in the Conference Premier.

But with the Wings set to travel north to Blundell Park tonight, Hurst wants his side to show just how far they've come since then – and avoid an unwanted double.

Recalling that early season defeat, he told the Telegraph: "It was one of those performances that was all right, but all right isn't good enough.

"I remember that we had more than enough to win that game but didn't get ourselves on the scoresheet and suffered from a late goal.

"I know that we're a completely different team now, and hopefully we can show Welling that this evening as well.

"Their win at their place has been getting a mention in the build-up to tonight because I don't want Welling to be able to say they've done the double over us.

"Yes, some teams have beaten us along the road, but I don't ever like teams beating us over two games.

"Tonight we need to get a win and balance it out."

The Mariners go into tonight's clash on the back of a ten-match unbeaten after Saturday's victory over League Two Northampton in the FA Cup.

And, although that result served to extend Town's impressive run, the break from Conference action saw some of their play-off rivals take advantage.

Hurst continued: "The one thing about the cup game and not playing on Saturday meant that we slipped down a position and Nuneaton jumped above us.

"We need to try and address that tonight.

"We need to make sure that when there's opportunity to put points on the board that we do that.

"I've said all along that the league is the priority and the lads have worked hard to get us to where we are.

"We need to make sure that we build on that at every opportunity."
