GRIMSBY'S dance star Kevin Clifton and his parents Keith and Judy appeared on BBC Breakfast this morning.
In a brief feature describing how his exploits on Strictly Come Dancing had put the town on the map, Kevin said: "Suddenly, I'm known as Kevin from Grimsby, which is really weird. No one knows my surname anymore."
His mum Judy told the programme, which is presented by Kevin's Strictly dance partner Susanna Reid, how he started ballroom dancing at their dance academy in Grimsby, recalling how he "couldn't stand still."
She said: "We would be walking down the supermarket and he would be doing a feathered three step."
Kevin himself recalled turning up at school on Monday morning still orange from make-up of his performance the previous day.
He said he would laugh about his hobby because "no one could get to me if I laughed about it first."
The programme also paid a visit to Grimsby - "a town more famous for its fish than its flamenco" - to ask if its residents had heard of the town's new star.
"Yes", replied one woman. "Everybody knows him. He's Kevin from Grimsby."
