THE season's third Battle of Bradley ended honours even with Grimsby Borough and Cleethorpes Town battling to a 1-1 draw.

In another a fiercely contested local derby, Andy Taylor's late strike cancelled out Nathan Emson's opener for Clee, with both teams coming away feeling that they had done enough to take all three points.

The derby was a scrappy affair in the early stages with neither side taking control of the contest.

Borough's back four stood firm to prevent Marc Cooper and Emson from sniffing out early chances while, at the other end Louis Grant tested Miles Fenty from 25 yards.

Clee had an gilt-edged chance to open the scoring when Emson got in behind, but with only Brad Beattie to beat, the young stopper deflected the effort to keep the score goalless at the break.

The second half began in explosive fashion when the 'visitors' grabbed the lead just a minute after the restart.

Borough were caught napping as Alex Flett's free-kick looped over a static defence and the unmarked Emson rounded keeper Beattie to find the corner of the net.

Now with more confidence, Clee pressed for a second and Beattie was forced into several important saves as Borough looked to weather the storm.

But a double substitution would prove to be the turning point for the hosts with Taylor and Steve Davis replacing Grant and Luke Fanthorpe.

Despite the change, initially the visitors held firm and looked as though they were going to take all three points, with Lee McFarland and Rick Peck dominant at the back.

But on 80 minutes, after a sustained period of pressure, Borough got themselves back on terms.

Clee failed to deal with a cross into the box and Taylor reacted first to slam the ball into the roof of the net, giving Fenty no chance from six yards.

Borough even had two chances to grab a winner when Taylor's superb low cross ran through the box and full-back Steve Wright spurned a late one-on-one with Fenty.

After the game, Borough joint-boss Nigel Fanthorpe said: "All in all, the game was not a classic.

"But we picked up a very welcome point that could have even been three at the finish."

The result leaves Marcus Newell's Clee level on points with Shaw Lane Aquaforce at the top of the table while the Blues find themselves sitting in 15th.
