ON January 19, 2011, CLEE Cons B came away from Westlands on the wrong end of a 5-3 scoreline in the Roy Ling Mutual Grimsby Snooker Doubles League.

That was the last time they were beaten, almost two and a half seasons ago – until this week.

Playing host to their A team in a local derby match, they got off to a confident start when Steve Donner and Mike Bridge won the opening frame quite comfortably.

Opponents Jimmy Yates and Wayne Tucker remained composed, stuck to the task and were rewarded when Tucker made an excellent 22 clearance to snatch the frame on the black and level up the scores.

Another black ball finish saw Rob Willerton and Chris Farrow win the third frame for the A team by just one point, and with the aid of a 24 break from Willerton, they won the next as well to make it 3-1.

Buoyed up by the success they were having, Graham and Craig Thomas really put the icing on the cake for the "visitors", as they won the last two frames to bring to an end their club-mates' long unbeaten run, and record a fantastic 5-1 victory.

This result enabled Hainton A to close the gap at the top of the table to just four points after they shared the spoils with Taylor Made Carpets.

Played at Heneage Road, Luke Major and Aaron McHugh won the opening two frames for the home team and Matt Paterson and Kyle Mawer shared with Keith Southwell and George Padley to put them 3-1 ahead.

They couldn't add to that however, as Keith Tomlinson and Craig Taylor won the last two frames for the visitors.

Two black ball re-spots, two black ball games and two pink ball finishes were the order of the day as the rivalry between Dads & Lads and Nats continued at Cue World.

The end result was not as close as you might think though, as Jase and Matty Lawton, and Lewis Sewell and Martin Dowling all won 2-0 for the Dads, and Bradley Burrell and Taylor Dowling shared with Nige Emmerson and Steve Austin in a 5-1 victory.

A nice comment on the back of the scoresheet says: "An outstanding performance from Matty Lawton tonight, played well beyond his years, well done."

On another week, we may have started our report with the big clash which came in Section A when joint leaders Blossom Way and Linden Homes met in Immingham.

The home team took the early initiative as Kev Gowing and Kev Johnson won the first two frames, and Daz Edwards and Albert Potterton shared with Chris Brown and John Baker to put them 3-1 up.

The visitors however, are not at the top without good reason and they fought back to earn a 3-3 draw when Mel Pratt and Daz Braithwaite won the last two frames of the night.

Healing Legion A played host to Clee Bowls B and shared the first two frames when Dave Hallberg and Gerry Howes finished even with Janett Newell and Mike Barrett.

From then on though, it was one-way traffic for the Bowlers as Dave Walton, Mick Parker, Steve Trott and Paul Simpson won the rest of the frames in a 5-1 victory.

It was nice to see Paul Simpson in the balls again as he knocked in a splendid 52 break.

Another match in Healing saw the Mens go down 4-2 at home against West End B.

Dave Leen, Brian Woods, Dean Austwick and Dennis Wallis shared the opening four frames with Dave Page, Darren Roche, Rick Benefer and Malcolm Naulls before Walt Simpson and Barry Jebson won the last two frames for the WestEnders.

John Brocklesby and Dave Rushby won the opening two frames for Standard A at home against Cromwell B but that was their lot as Les Pigg, Phil Revell, Daz Burrows and Ray Revell won the rest for the visitors in a 4-2 victory.
