ONE Christmas wish has already come true ... and the big day is still three weeks away.
In October, Humberston Lions made a double appeal through the Grimsby Telegraph: for a trailer for their old sleigh and some venues to take it to during the festive season.
Now both prayers have been answered, with the results better than they could have dared to imagine.
After their appeal to borrow a trailer to carry the sleigh that they had been donated, a call came in from Humberside Fire and Rescue.
The fire service had just the thing, a pristine sleigh complete with two reindeer, a sound system, a bubble machine and Christmas lights, which has been handed over on loan and completely free.
And now the Lions have managed to secure a whole run of venues to take the sleigh to in the next few weeks, so they can spread festive joy and raise money for local charities.
Lion Clive Genney said: "We appealed to the Grimsby Telegraph readers and, as ever, they really came up trumps for us.
"The fire service called us just a few days after the article went in and said they might have something of interest for us.
"We really couldn't believe the sleigh when we saw it, it is a dream come true as it is better than we could ever have hoped for.
"The reindeer are so lifelike, I swear one of them bit me when I first saw them!
"We have got to say a huge thank you to the Telegraph, the fire service and Tony's Autos, in Grimsby, who have let us store the sleigh over Christmas without charge.
"It really shows the extent of the Christmas spirit in this area.
"We also have some great venues lined up, and will spend four hours at each, so the kids can meet Santa and have their picture taken with him and we raise a bit of money for some good local causes.
"Every penny we raise goes straight to the charities for people less fortunate and that is even more important at Christmas time."
Jo Peart, community safety advocate at Humberside Fire and Rescue, said the fire service was delighted to be able to help.
"We saw the appeal in the paper and knew the sleigh which we had been donated earlier this year would be perfect.
"Everything the Lions do is for charity and hopefully lots of good causes will be able to benefit from this."
