MICHAEL Coulson could add something to Grimsby Town's promotion charge – if the Mariners needed more wide players.
The former Town winger has endured a frustrating season with York City, making only five League Two outings.
And the 25-year-old, who racked up more than 100 appearances for the Mariners, has subsequently been made available for a loan switch.
However, Town boss Paul Hurst resisted making a move for Coulson before the loan window shut on Thursday, insisting he has more than enough quality on the flanks already.
"I know that Coulo is available and not currently having the best of times at the minute but, realistically, he wasn't one that I considered moving for," said Hurst.
"I've got Joe Colbeck, Scott Neilson, Alex Rodman and Paddy McLaughlin who can play there, as well as Caine Winfarrah.
"There's five there that can do a really good job for us and, realistically, if Coulo was to come in he'd expect to play – which I'd understand.
"I think Coulo could certainly bring something to us if I needed a wide player but I would say that's the last area that I'm looking at."
Hurst admits that he did consider strengthening his squad ahead of the busy festive period.
He added: "From last Sunday, I deliberated long and hard about bringing someone in. Had someone become available who I thought could really improve us, then I'd have done something.
"But the danger is that you bring someone in to be a bit-part and then all of a sudden you've got an unmotivated player – you run the risk of the parent club asking questions and potentially jeopardising future deals.
"So after weighing it up, I decided to stick with what we've got and not bring anyone in."
