"BIG Brother" will be making sure late-night shoppers and partygoers are safe this festive season.
There are 147 security cameras covering St James' Square, the town centre, Freeman Street, Cleethorpe Road and near the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway.
And the Grimsby Telegraph was able to join the team inside the central camera hub to witness Thursday night's late-night shopping and The Big Christmas Event.
Footage was being beamed back onto the 27 CCTV control room screens in a top secret location.
Kevin Hynes, CCTV and security manager from Balfour Beatty, in conjunction with North East Lincolnshire Council, has seen many violent crimes on camera – proving just how important they are for our safety.
He said: "We have just upgraded to a new vigilant system where the police can have more access to our CCTV.
"It is part of a crime initiative to share intelligence and reduce crime in the town.
"If we see any trouble we radio through to the police control room. We then provide evidence for the police and try our best to get clear CCTV footage of crimes.
"We were extra vigilant during this week's Big Christmas Event because there were crowds of people.
"We can zoom in, turn cameras around, and each member of staff has to scan every camera once on shift.
"I really enjoy my job because it's interesting and diverse, watching different things going on."
Special constables and volunteers were drafted in to the CCTV Control Room just for the event, which also continued yesterday.
Grimsby Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector Steve Lynn said: "We made sure the whole event was safely managed, particularly because it was so well-attended.
"There was a lot going on with parades, bands and stalls so we were extra vigilant.
"This is the first time we have joined the control room because it is important to work together on such big events."
