A SUPERB weekend on the boats saw Tony Hogg reign supreme in top conditions, hauling in the cod on board Hogwash at the Humber.
Hogg weighed in with 14lb 4oz gutted, just ahead of Chris Jorgensen (12lb 8.5oz) in second on board Joshua.
Mel Crofts, on John Dory, was third with 12lb 2.5oz.
It was the first time this season the anglers were greeted by a flat calm sea and, as a result, there was many charter and beach boats, and the usual marina crowd.
Almost 20 anglers took part in a big cod match, from 7am until 3pm, with a good assortment of fish being caught.
All of the boats started fishing at the 4B, which is on the Cleethorpes side of the channel, before they ventured out as the tide eased.
Boats are reporting good size whiting, with the odd few good size cod being caught – most of which are tipping the scales at 6.5lb.
A few more disappointed anglers, who weighed in 11lb-plus fish, were left to think about the money, and all of the tails that had got away from them.
The fish Hogg netted was doing 'roly polys' when it came near to the boat but, just as he did, you must keep pressure on the fish up to the net, otherwise it would be another tail lost to the sea.
At the weigh in, we asked for the whiting to be put in a charity box, which the club organise every year and results in a lot of money being raised for worthwhile causes.

The club are well on the way to reaching their £4,000 target.
A special thank you to our members today who filled the 50kilo charity box which will go toward this clubs target of £4,000 that we hope to raise every year.
Another thank you must go the Wind Farm Catamaran Skippers that very carefully knitted there way through the many boats that were anchored on the route to the wind farms.
So a good days for fishing for the Humber Cruising lads.
On the shore, it was the Lincs Open on the Lincolnshire Coast.
There was a disappointing turn out and the fishing was slow to get off the ground.
But as soon as darkness fell, it was like someone had pulled a switch and told the fish it was time to feed.
Karl Nangle once again showed what a class angler he is by catching 22 whiting and dabs for a total weight of 9.11lb.
Next was Carl Whitey – he had 21 fish for 9.3lb, and Nigel Crabtree was third with 20 fish for 8.14lb.
