A CHARITY shop in Cleethorpes needs your help to hit its latest fundraising target.
Cleethorpes Cancer Support Group, based in Sea View Street, is aiming to raise £18,000 to buy an ultrasound scanner for Grimsby's Diana, Princess Of Wales Hospital.
The machine will be used for the diagnosis of prostate cancer, and will enable procedures to be less invasive.
The shop has already raised £15,000 and wants to reach the target in time for Christmas.
Volunteer manager Lynn Wedlake is issuing an appeal for donations of unwanted clothing or bric-a-brac.
She said: "We are up to £15,000 at the moment but at this time of year people are busy thinking about Christmas and they don't tend to go through their wardrobes and clear out their unwanted clothes.
"If people could donate any saleable clothes or bric-a-brac to help us reach that target we would be really grateful.
"We would also encourage people to come in and look for a bargain.
"We would love to be able to say to the hospital we have got the money in time for Christmas."
The shop decided to raise the money for the scanner after speaking to consultants at the hospital.
Lynn said: "We never just hand money over.
"We approach different consultants at the hospital and ask them what they need.
"Also we have recently donated money to the breast cancer unit and we thought it was about time we did something for male cancer patients as well."
Since deciding to focus its fundraising efforts entirely on local causes three-and-a-half-years ago, the shop, which is staffed entirely by volunteers, has raised more than £77,000 to help cancer patients in North East Lincolnshire.
Equipment it has helped to buy includes two patient monitors for the Bottoms Up Appeal, a portable ultrasound system for the radiology department and 50 post-mastectomy bra packs.
