A BOMB squad was sent to Cleethorpes beach yesterday to remove a small object that turned out to be a dummy practice bomb.
The object, which was originally believed to be a Navy shell, was found in the sand on the beach near St Anthony's Bank car park by a member of the public at 12.15pm.
Humber Coastguard were informed of the object by beach safety, and they put a 30m cordon in place when they arrived at the scene.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team arrived at 3.45pm, and removed the item.
A spokesman for Humber Coastguard said: "The bomb squad thought it was safe enough to remove it from the area.
"It was just a dummy practice bomb, so it wasn't a hazard. It was quite hefty and about 6 inches in diameter."
The coastguards said the bomb squad could have exploded the bomb before the tide came in had they needed to.
