ADDICT Shane Walden stole a 60-year-old woman's handbag, while she was being looked after following a drunken fall, a court heard.
Walden, a prolific burglar and amphetamine addict, was locked up, after his appearance at Grimsby Crown Court.
Walden, 28, of no fixed abode, stole the bag off Lynn Lindopp, 60, when she visited a friend in Albion Street, Grimsby.
The court heard, a heavily-intoxicated Mrs Lindopp fell over and was being tended to by one of two women who stopped to play Good Samaritans on Friday, September 20. A nearby CCTV camera in Bevan House filmed Walden walk up and steal the bag.
Walden was arrested and bailed. But on Sunday, November 3, he was caught trying to break into a shed belonging to Daniel Ebbs, of Frederick Street.
Mr Ebbs was woken up by loud banging. He called 999 and officers found Walden standing in the garden. After his arrest, Walden said he had "hit rock bottom" due to his addition to amphetamine.
The court heard he had also been prosecuted on September 16 after stealing from his neighbour – a crime caught on camera in March. At that earlier hearing, Stephen Welch, prosecuting, told Grimsby Crown Court that Walden had only just moved into a room next door to the one he targeted in a shared house, in Rutland Street.
Adam Rennie returned to his room to find the door had been forced. A television, DVD player and holdall were gone.
Checks at a second-hand shop revealed that Walden had offered the television and DVD player for sale.
Walden was given a one-year suspended prison sentence and ordered to do 200 hours' unpaid work.
At the latest appearance the court heard Walden went out four days later and stole Mrs Lindopp's handbag. In mitigation Craig Lowe said his client had no benefits and needed to eat. He was massively sorry.
Judge Mark Bury sentenced Walden to four months for the theft and eight months for the attempted burglary to run consecutively with the suspended sentence imposed in September.
