A new £400,000 surgical assessment unit has been officially opened this morning at Grimsby's Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital.
The unit, on ward B2, incorporates an assessment and short stay area for emergency surgical patients.
It was officially opened by Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust chief executive Karen Jackson.
Mr Mike Tilston, clinical director of general surgery at the hospital, said: "The new unit is excellent news for patients.
"They will receive timely review by the surgical team with access to diagnostics in order for a quick and efficient decision to be made as to whether the patient needs admitting or discharging."
