MORE than 200 people turned out last night to pay tribute to 15-year-old Koen Allwood, who was killed after being hit by a car in Barton. Students from Baysgarth School came in their droves to leave tributes at the Dam Road junction, where the incident happened on Wednesday night. A 15-year-old girl was also seriously injured in the incident. On Friday schoolmates took turns to say a few words about Koen, and left a sea of flowers at the roadside. They walked from Barton train station to the corner of Dam Road, while police officers stopped traffic both ways. Sam Oxley, a close friend of Koen's family, spoke on their behalf. She said: "The turnout was staggering. So many friends, family and members of the community came to show their respects. "They walked very peacefully down the road to pay their respects, and we were really impressed with his schoolmates writing their own poetry. "Everyone remembered him in their own way. He was a shining star of a boy. "The number of people that came demonstrates how much of an effect he has had, on so many people's lives of so many ages. It shows what Koen meant to the people of Baysgarth and the community. "To Koen's mum it will mean everything. Right now they are grateful for everyone's support, and his schoolmates have shown a massive amount of maturity. "He would be quite shocked by the number of people that came out because he was a very modest young man. He would not have realised he had touched so many people's lives." After the incident police arrested two men, both 23, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Police yesterday said one of the men has been released on police bail, pending further enquiries. The second man has been released with no further action.
