A CLEETHORPES bar manager has been stripped of his supervision licence after troubles at the resort pub.

North East Lincolnshire Council licensing councillors told Mark Rickards he could no longer hold the designated premises supervisor role at Teddys on Market Place.

It follows repeated warnings from licensing officers and an alleged assault on a police officer in July by a customer.

Councillors imposed a series of stringent measures to curb violence and unruly behaviour inside and outside the pub.

They voted to take the sanction against Mr Rickards following a request from Humberside Police licensing officer, Ken Stone.

After the hearing he said: "We tried to work with the licence holder. But the members had no choice. The review process had to be undertaken.

"We have to make the place safe for members of the public."

The review followed an incident on July 8 when a customer allegedly punched his mother. When police arrived PC Stuart Catmull was alleged to have been assaulted.

The incident happened at 12.50am, 50 minutes after time should have been called and 20 minutes outside its authorised non-alcohol operating hours.

Mr Stone said: "Every individual inside the premises appeared to be intoxicated."

He said the male involved in the incident had been drinking all day and had continued to be served despite being intoxicated.

He added staff appeared to be drunk.

Councillors were told the licence holder was spoken to on July 11 and his answers to the officer were "incoherent, illogical and confusing".

Licensing officers also highlighted problems at Teddys on match days.

Polycarbonate cups were not used at the venue as requested and on one occasion a group of males from Teddys threw glasses at a police car.

CCTV footage highlighting troubles at the bar was shown to members of the committee.

They agreed a set of conditions for the venue, including limiting outside smoking to ten people at anytime and no alcohol allowed outside.

On match days only polycarbonate cups will be used and staff will be trained further on how to deal with drunk customers attempting to buy alcohol.

Councillors said Teddys will have to adopt a comprehensive anti-drugs policy.

The licence holder has 21 days to appeal the decision and Mr Rickards is seeking a new designated premises supervisor.
