THE Cleethorpes Camera Club annual photographic exhibition opened its doors this week, showcasing some of the area's best photographers.

It's being held at Cleethorpes Public Library and kicked off with a viewing on Tuesday by the club membership.

Each member of the club was encouraged to submit at least three pictures to the exhibition whether they were an amateur or experienced photographer.

Dave Thompson, who joined the Cleethorpes Camera Club after seeing the many great pictures published in the Grimsby Telegraph, said: "I am interested in photography. I owned a camera but, like many people, it was more out of luck than judgement that I managed to get photographs that were not blurred or out of focus.

"Even with a digital camera I found that I deleted more than I'd like to admit.

"Finding the Cleethorpes Camera Club, and with experienced support from senior members such as Brian Gromett and Alan Tyrer, has completely changed my old clumsy (and lucky) camera techniques to allow me to develop and become Monday Group Photographer Of The Year.

"I find I'm getting too old for school, so the Cleethorpes Camera Club meetings, which are always friendly and sociable, give its members the confidence to develop their skills and to become better photographers at their own pace."

The Cleethorpes Camera Club is located in its members-owned premises in Reynolds Street, and was recently given a lottery grant which allowed it to be extensively repaired, and with members' help, it is now a high standard building dedicated to the enhancement of photography and film.

The exhibition runs until the end of next week.
