AN £80,000 project is being introduced at Grimsby's Diana Princess of Wales Hospital to ensure medicines are safely stored on wards and in departments.
A state-of-the-art electromechanical locking system is being rolled out - and Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the first NHS trust in the country to implement it.
It follows a trial in Scunthorpe, which demonstrated the innovative system saves nurses' time and ensures medications are safely locked away.
Staff will no longer need to search the ward for the current key holder, as people needing access to the drug cupboards and fridges will be allocated their own unique 'intelligent key'.
