PEOPLE are getting a hands-on an awareness campaign to alert more people to testicular cancer.
Balls To Cancer is the name of a charity which will be using Waltham Airfield for a five kilometre fun run next month.
Many will have already seen the charity's mascot, Mr Monkey Nuts, popping up in North East Lincolnshire to promote the awareness campaign.
The organiser of the fun run, Neil Arliss, said he hoped as many people as possible will join in to create greater understanding of male cancer and raise money for research.
Neil, 42, said: "Each year, 200,000 men are diagnosed with cancer in the UK, killing ten men an hour.
"Balls To Cancer has held similar fun runs elsewhere in the country before but this will be the first one in Grimsby and we're hoping it will be a big success.
"If this run goes well, we are hoping it will become an annual fundraiser."
He was impressed with the support given to female cancer awareness events and wanted to do something for men.
He thanked the owner of the former RAF airfield, Geoff Sleight, for permission to hold the event there.
Neil, an operations co-ordinator for Immingham firm SGS, said: "I have a number of family members who have been affected by cancer.
"Men tend not to talk about their health or what could be troubling them and we just get on with life, but there needs to be greater awareness."
Balls To Cancer is backed by a number of celebrities including Gordon Ramsay, former footballers Jody Craddock and Robbie Savage, TV presenter Jake Humphrey and Scott Robinson from the band 5ive.
The run, starting from noon on Sunday, September 29, will involve one lap of the airfield and will be open to walkers of all ages. Mitsubishi dealership Nunns, of Altyre Way, in Grimsby, has lent the charity an L200 pick-up to help boost the numbers taking part.
General sales manager Matt Arliss, Neil's brother, said: "We are keen to help this worthy cause in any way we can and hopefully they will get a great turn out for the run."
Participants can enter on the day but organisers hope supporters will contact them beforehand. Each runner gets a free T-shirt and there's no minimum fundraising requirement. To take part, visit www.ballstocancer.com or call Neil on 07843 058009.
