MORE than 20 army cadets from Grimsby and the surrounding area have just returned from successfully completing a challenging two-week training camp held at Warcop Camp in Cumbria.
Cadets from three detachments in the area including Cleethorpes, Grimsby and Immingham joined more than 400 cadets from across the region who took part in the camp, which for some was the first time away from home.
Kayaking, raft-building, rock climbing, archery and obstacle courses were just some of the varied activities for the cadets over the two weeks.
The cadets also took part in first aid, orienteering, shooting, fieldcraft, overnight exercises, drill and sports.
John Whitgift Academy student and Grimsby cadet Rosie-Ann Clark, 15, from Wybers Wood, said: "This was my first camp and I had no idea what to expect, but I've absolutely loved it! It's been a full-on two weeks, and tiring, but I've done things on camp, and in cadets generally, that few of my age ever get to do."
The cadet camp also saw more than 30 VIPs and dignitaries paying a visit, including the Mayor of North East Lincolnshire, the Mayor of Immingham and The Honourable Mrs Susan Cunliffe-Lister, Lord-Lieutenant for East Yorkshire.
