A BODY has been pulled from the water in Cleethorpes. Police received a call at around 12.20pm yesterday reporting the sighting of a body close to the pier. The Coastguard Rescue Team were alerted and attended in order to assist in retrieving the body, in liaison with police. A volunteer crew of four aboard Cleethorpes RNLI lifeboat James Burgess II was launched to support the response of the Coastguard and Council Beach Safety Officers, who walked to the location indicated to them by the people who had sighted the man, around a mile out from the high water mark off the pier. Senior Helmsman Gary Barlow said: "Services of this nature are thankfully fairly infrequent here at Cleethorpes, and the events leading up to the discovery of this man's body are as yet unknown to us." Following recovery of the body, described as male, enquiries have commenced to establish the identity and circumstances leading to his death.
